Frequently asked questions
01. What sets Enciclo apart from other consulting firms?
We are the first Brazilian company approved to conduct EPD verifications, which proves our technical rigor. Our approach goes beyond traditional consulting; we act as a strategic partner that transforms scientific data into tangible business value.
02. Who can verify an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) in Brazil?
EPD verification can only be performed by individual verifiers approved by the environmental labeling program or by organizations accredited by it. Enciclo is the first company in Brazil to be approved to perform EPD verifications, and currently features three approved verifiers within the International EPD® System.
03. How can Enciclo help me justify sustainability investments to senior management?
Our work is not a cost, but a strategic investment. Enciclo provides data that leads to cost reduction, risk mitigation, and a competitive market advantage, generating a tangible return for your business.
04. What is Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)?
LCA is the leading global scientific methodology for quantifying the environmental impacts of a product or service. It is highly robust because it evaluates all stages of the life cycle, from raw material extraction to final disposal.
05. What does a Critical Review of an LCA study entail?
A critical review is the methodological evaluation of your LCA study conducted by an independent expert. It is a fundamental step to validate the transparency and credibility of your environmental claims, protecting your brand against the risk of greenwashing.
06. How is biodiversity impact calculated using LCA?
Biodiversity impact is measured through impact assessment methods that convert the extent to which a given environmental aspect can exert pressure on biodiversity. These methods calculate results in terms of potentially affected fractions of species.
For example, SO2 emissions resulting from a company’s activities can cause acid rain, leading to the acidification of lakes and, consequently, increased fish mortality, which can impact freshwater biodiversity.
07. What is the difference between an LCA study and a carbon footprint?
LCA and carbon footprint studies share the same methodological framework and exhibit a high degree of similarity in the data required for life cycle modeling. The primary difference lies in the interpretation of the results: while LCA analyzes a broad set of environmental impact categories, a carbon footprint focuses exclusively on the climate change category, expressed in greenhouse gas emissions. Nonetheless, the consulting stages, applied methods, and modeling tools used are essentially the same, enabling technical synergies, efficiency gains, and consistency between both types of studies.
08. What is the difference between a Carbon Footprint (CFP) and a GHG Inventory?
A GHG inventory quantifies organizational emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, whereas a Carbon Footprint (CFP) focuses on emissions generated by a specific product or service, making it essential for product-level communication and marketing. In other words, the inventory is organization-centric, while the carbon footprint is product-, process-, or technology-centric.
