The importance of sustainable water consumption, especially in regions or seazons of water scarcity, led us to develop more robust indicators to manage its use. However, reducing water consumption is not a simple activity as manufacturing process often has the latest technology in terms of rational water use.

Water Footprint (WF) considers direct and indirect freshwater consumption and effluent generation, what makes WF indicator a efficient way to manage hidric resources. Unlike the "traditional" water management on direct consumption in production lines, the results of WF indicate which internal processes and which suppliers should be prioritized to minimize water use.

Therefore, through this analysis it is possible to identify the hotspots of the product system, which are the stages of the process in which the greatest water demands occur and whose mapping is essential to reduce its WF.
